just to give you some basic arguments before making suggestions on PvP.

EDIT: the following concerns FFA PvP (Free For All PvP, open PvP, player looting ... )

These (especially some comments), are the best reads about the subject I found in a long time.
So I recommend reading the walls of text inclusive the comments!

I think the topic deserves a bit more attention.

After reading the first article, I am not gonna read the second.

He basicly just says that MMO's suck at PvP'ing because:

it almost always comes down to who has the highest DPS and most HP

Then he talks about games that do require skill:

the more skillful player will understand how to fully exploit their opponent's weaknesses while playing their own strengths. You see this kind of trade off in any good competitive multiplayer game. TF2, BF2, Rocket Arena, Starcraft, Red Alert 2, Advanced Wars, etc., they all boil down to game knowledge and clever, read: skillful, use of the resources given to a player.

And even though I am well aware, that a level 15 doesn't stand much chance against a level 40 - I still think that Tera belongs in the second group or atleast some kind of hybrid between those two.

I think you are better off summarizing all three articles and posting them, and then trying to have a discussion, 99.9% of the people on any forum will probably just skip over the thread because it contains reading, same as I, exept I just thought I would let you know why no one is noticing

you fit the picture you've given just nicely.

Honestly, I didn't expect to get a discussion off my post.
I knew just throwing in some links isn't enough to get the needed attention for a meaningful discourse.

I'm fine with that. I just wanted to give some stuff to the ones serious about the subject.

Seriously does anyone actually want that? FFA PVP with Body looting? Get stalked, then when your about to log off with your guard down a dude comes and kills you and takes all your gear... The only reason anyone would agree to this is if they have a hack up there sleeve...

Yep UR right.
I don't want FFA-PvP and I won't promote it.

I played Darkfall long enough to realize that one ****** can be enough to ruin your fun for a long time.
EDIT: I didn't quit DFO because of such things. I quit because of the exhausting and boring gameplay.

But the subject is a lot more complex than that.
Thats why I threw in some linked articles (1st post).
Though I know not many will read them through.

Thanks for the links. Good reads, well, except for the condescending tone of the FFA advocate in the second one.

What I got out of them was that FFA PvP works in a game designed around it and doesn't in a game that isn't. Now we just have to wait and see what kind of game TERA will be.

If you look properly, my previous post was actually longer then the post

As for FFA-PVP, the servers will be divided into PVP and PVE, the PVE servers having Targeted, limited PVP. I don't see what the problem is, people can play where they think is best

Yep.

I don't see a problem either.
In fact I'm quite confident that the devs will get it right, so that hardcore players and Carebears as well will get their share.
