Greetings

Summer is slowly making its way to Seattle (we're hoping we don't blink and miss it), and the En Masse team has just returned from E3—the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, the biggest game industry show of the year—where we made lots of new TERA friends. For pics and video, have a look at our E3 Recap.

We're also busy implementing your feedback from the second Focus Group Test. If you're interested in participating in future tests, be sure to fill out our new tester application (even if you've already participated in past tests)!

Quotes from our staff

"A typical day writing for TERA means weaving together a dozen plotlines, drinking some coffee, developing characters with the other writers (over coffee), running around Lake Union while I plan dialogue for a cinematic, drinking more coffee, collaborating with my counterparts across the Pacific, taking a coffee break, exploring the game-world with my archer, Kawika, and (after some coffee) writing voiceovers when I'm sure no one around here is listening. Good thing I like coffee, eh?"

TERA hot topic of the month

TERA's hands-on demo had the industry buzzing on Day 1 of E3. Here's what some of them had to say:

"[TERA] was some of the most fun we've had at E3 so far this year... It's tough to believe that TERA is an MMO in the traditional sense. The game also looks superb; we can't wait to play more... TERA could be the MMO to beat next year."

- IGN.com -

"TERA is fun, and that's really what's important. The main focus of our demo was group-based dynamics in combat, and it was incredibly enjoyable... all I wanted to do was go back and play the game everychance I got. When a game can do that, they've already won."

Meet a Mob :

Vekas the Wicked Tree

  • Name: Vekas
  • Race: Ghilliedhu
  • Occupation: Menace to the Expedition

Vekas is a powerful ghilliedhu found on the northern Island of Dawn. Unlike most ghilliedhus, Vekas is prone to attacking interlopers, slaughtering them with his powerful limbs. Vekas is extremely tough, and able to withstand most attacks with ease. Vekas slaughtered the first Federation patrol he met, leaving only a sole survivor. His vicious nature and malevolence are well known to the Federation survivors on the island. Read Centurion Nevik's briefing for details on how to take down this wicked tree boss. Read more...

Fan Art Contest Winner

Our recent Fan Art Contest on the TERA forums was a huge success! We received lots of great entries, so choosing was tough, but after much deliberation, the winner is Kevin Hernandez!

Artist's Bio:
Kevin Hernandez (Greasy Bacon) began his art career by doodling in the margins of his grade school homework assignments. Middle school teachers discouraged this behavior, so he took a break until college, where he passed his first art class with flying colors. He hopes to become a professional artist one day.

Notes from Creative Director Aaron LeMay
Overall, a great showing of art from our fans. Awesome work, everyone!

Notes on the winner:
I was immediately drawn to seeing the process of the artist. The use of traditional media and the variance of line weight in the sketch is refreshing to see. The transition to the painted piece is a good start, and captures the somber mood of the Baraka.

FAQ

Your questions answered

Q: What can you tell me about PvP rewards?

A: TERA will have a variety of rewards for PvP activities. For example, PvP is one way for players to achieve public office in the game's political system—literally killing your way into positions of power and prestige!

Q: What else can you tell us about PvP?

A: Battleground teams will be able to create a Commander–a leader who has access to special abilities that benefit the entire group. For example, the Commander may be able to call upon a high-damage spell that affects a large area—including his own group if they don't move out of the way!
